The District recognizes that a high water bill resulting from an accidental, unpreventable water release can present a financial hardship to a customer.
While most water releases are preventable, there are certain circumstances when an accidental water release cannot be reasonably prevented.
The intent of this policy is to establish a one-time leak adjustment, for up to 1/2 of the excess water bill above normal consumption due to an accidental water release.
The determination of the amount of adjustment is as follows.
The customer's average water use is subtracted from the total usage on your bill, this total is then divided in half. This new adjustment is made to the customers bill.
Calculate Adjustment:
(EXAMPLE)
Leak Amount: 50,000 gall=$304.75
Average Usage: 6,000 gallons/minus ($35.65)
Difference: $269.10
Leak Adjustment: $134.55 (1/2 of the difference)
Summary:
Leak Amount:
$304.75
Less Adjustment Amount:
$134.55
Amount Due: $170.20
